The late Pope Francis' visit to Bahrain

Update: in Andrew Zolnai Private Blog, two mid-2026 posts on Middle-Eastern religious regimes compared here, and Climate Change and the Old Testament here.

Following my last blogpost on Bahrain here, and to celebrate the late Pope's life, let's view his 2022 visit there, shall we?

Other anecdotes

Eastern Orthodoxy

The Pope's funeral showed the Eastern churches' prelates, and that made me look up Oriental & Easten Orthodoxy - some of it relates to a branch of my family- I appended it to this post here.

Ireland religious conflict

Looking up a song Loch Marée a Scottish lake, I found here* a historic gem on Lochmaria Plouzané that sounded similar, and where a second cousin lived once in Brittany.

It turns out that it was the headland of the Christianization of Brittany from what is now known as Ireland, late 4th to mid 5th c. AD, by Sané a disciple of St. Patrick. Did you know that they were already fleeing persecution by the English? For me, that extends the history of religious conflict in Ireland by about a millennium!

More early Christianity

The Rule of St. Benedict (Wikipedia), written around 530 AD by St. Benedict of Nursia, is a foundational text for Western monasticism. I looked it up when re-posting off my Facebook 12/4/2019:

Santa Maria Maggiore is where Pope Francis was interred in Rome. A sole remaining paleochristian and main Marian church (website), it was built in the 5th c. and expanded since.

This overlapped the end of the Roman Empire (Wikipedia)... one of those things I knew vaguely in context, but now realise I didn't know in detail!
