Kuwait City was home from Oct.. 2010 to Jan. 2012 incl. - see desktop blog header here and opening post here - this poem was written there exactly a decade after the destruction left by retreating Iraqi troops, who lit oil wells that burned from Jan. to Nov. 2011. More on that later.
